FS: Seymour Duncan Basslines AJJ-1 Pro-Active Jazz Set

Sign in to disble this ad
A pair of jazz pups from Seymour Duncan, specifically the Basslines AJJ-1 Pro-Active Jazz Set. These are in beautiful condition, with plenty of lead. One pup has a small scratch which you can see if you angle it toward the light, but I never noticed until I photographed them. It isn't noticeable with strings on. No pots or wiring, only the pickups and the promise of some serious SD sound.

I had these in a bass for a few years, but it never left the practice room. I've sold it now, but put the original pups back in for that sale.

These pups have a broad, organic tone, not tinny or brittle like some active pups. Great for classic rock or a heavier sound, though many swear by them for blues applications.

Seymour Duncan rates the battery life of these pups at 1000 hours.

Make then yours! Only $80 $75 shipped CONUS.

(Last time I checked our friend online, they were $158.)

Here's a stock photo, the real thing to come.

I had a couple of questions about these, so I'll answer them as best I can.

As for the battery life, Seymour Duncan claims that you can get 1000 hours of playing time out of a single high quality battery. The circuit is on whenever a cable is plugged into the bass, so you should unplug the cable when not in use or it will eat up your battery.

Another question dealt with "active" versus "passive". Passive pups need no power, but the send a low level signal to the amp (unless a pre-amp is used). Some people think you lose a little bit of the highs with a passive pup.

Active pups, by contrast, require that a battery be wired into the control system. Active pups have small pre-amps built into each pup, so they send a much hotter signal to the amp. If you have active pups, you don't need an internal pre-amp in order to send a hotter signal to the amp. Some people think you get better range and dynamics with an active pup.

I have used both. I really love the sound of an active pickup in a jazz bass, and have played SDs and EMGs with good results. I love passive pups in P Basses.

Another excellent combo is a passive pickup with an internal pre-amp, whether it is one you install or one that comes with the bass. My Fender American Deluxe Jazz has passive pups but an active EQ. It's my favorite bass, but for a number of other reasons.

Anyway, hope this helps. I'm not a pickup expert by any means, but the foregoing is based upon what I have read and experienced first hand. If anyone sees something I have gotten wrong, please chime in.

What is the length on these? Are they the same like the MIM Jazz, or is the neck pickup a little shorter than the bridge like a MIA Jazz? I could look them up at Basslines.com, but it might be helpful info for others.

Thanks, low, for pointing that out. One pickup is slightly longer than the other. If my measurements were right, one was 92 mm and the other 94.5 mm. That works out in inches to about 3.625 x 3.730, which is the Seymour Duncan spec.

A lot of interest here, but nobody has pulled the trigger yet. I have a nice little Squier jazz that could use some mods and upgrades, but I'd rather sell these to you.

Bump on some really nice pups. These are great especially if you don't like that scooped sound.

No sale, they are available again.

I'm surprised, these are really great sounding pickups.

A couple of more days, then on to ebay, but I really don't like ebay. It used to be just a bunch of people selling each other their stuff, now it seems to be nothing but merchants. Lots of sellers from overseas selling fake stuff, fees are too high, etc. But that's just my rant.
