FS: NOS and Vintage Tubes: 2 Vintage Sylvania 12AX7's Left!

Sign in to disble this ad
2 Vintage Sylvania 12AX7 Halo or "O" Getters Left! $50 shipped for the pair and PayPal accepted or $25 each.

I originally purchased these tubes for an Ampeg V4 rebuild. I have 4 NOS 7027A's, 3 12AX7's, 1 12AU7, and 1 NOS 12DW7. The tubes all tested as new when I purchased them, and they were only placed in my V4 briefly for an A/B comparison with a set of brand new tubes, and what a difference they made! The V4 simply lacked the clean headroom that I require for my current project, so I sold the amplifier along with the set of new tubes. These tubes were tested and purchased from Akron Antique Audio, who specialize in vintage tube equipment and amplifiers.

3 NOS GE 7027A's and 1 NOS Sylvania 7027A:

These tubes were matched for performance by the owner at Akron Antique Audio, who also claimed that either GE manufactured the 7027A for Sylvania or vice-versa, I can't really remember which. The tubes function flawlessly and come with their original boxes.

I noticed a big difference when I placed these tubes in my V4, over the new set. The amplifier seemed to really open up, with more depth to the low end and a bit more clean head room.

On the down side, when I was removing the tubes from the amplifier, I broke the plastic tube guide on the last GE 7027A on the right in the photo. This guide sits at the bottom of the tube, between the pins and is used to guide the tube into the socket with the proper pin orientation. I still have the plastic piece, which broke cleanly and could easily be glued in place. Once the tube is firmly seated in its socket, the guide has no bearing on the function or stability of the tube. Of course, the tube functions flawlessly, and the guide isn't necessary for its function, as long as you assure that you are aligning the pins correctly when placing the tube in your amplifier.

$125 for the set shipped and PayPal accepted. SOLD

2 Sylvania 12AX7:

These Sylvania made grey plate 12AX7's are labeled "Baldwin" and are halo or "o" getter. This is a very low noise tube which is typical for organ stock tubes since they were screened for this feature. If your all tube or hybrid amp uses 12AX7's, this is the upgrade for you!

$25 each shipped and PayPal accepted.

1 NOS Sylvania 12DW7:

This Sylvania 12DW7 was noted for its warm sound and fat bass response, which is why so many pro bassists put these into their ampegs.

$30 shipped and PayPal accepted. SOLD

1 RCA 12AU7:

This tube tested as new and functions flawlessly.

$20 shipped and PayPal accepted. SOLD

PM on the 12AU7 - I got a Mesa Bass 400 with that tube's name written on it. (Does that make any sense??)

The power tubes rock! I swapped out the main 12ax7 for a 12au7, and now my V4 is pure sweetness. Thanks kdogg!

Awesome! I'm glad the tubes are slammin for you! It really is hard to beat the sound of qaulity vintage tubes.

Well, one of the 12AX7's is gone as well as the 12DW7, so only two 12AX7's left out of the bunch. I'm strongly considering hanging on to them, as I'm gasing for the new GK Fusion, and I'll bet these babies would sound killer in that head.

Anyway, the 12AX7's are still up... for now.

Thanks Guys!

Just curious, what higher headroom amp did you choose to replace the v4???

I'm currently running a preamp + poweramp setup with a sansamp. The V4 sounded great, but with 2 guitars and a drummer, playing hard rock, my tone was just breaking up a bit too early when I had to push the volume. I was using a mesa boogie diesel 2x15 at the time, but have since switched to a 4x10. The V4 is a great amp though!
