I just won this Allparts Rosewood Jazz neck on ebay last week-
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
It's an Allparts Jazz neck with rosewood fretboard + Fender tuners/nut, but finished in vintage nitro by Atkinson basses.
Hasn't actually even arrived yet (Fed-ex website tells me tomorrow!), but.....
I was originally/specifically looking to buy an ebony fretboarded neck as I have had great experiences with ebony in the past and massive GAS for another (all my basses at the moment have maple). Then I saw this beautiful neck put together by Atkinson Basses and said "that's the neck I want!". It's due to arrive tomorrow and I'm already having second thoughts- I can sometimes get annoyingly neurotic and obsessive about seemingly trivial things when it comes to instruments (I'm sure many of you can relate). When it comes, I'm definitely going to give it a rigorous audition- and it may very well be "the one" I was sure it was when I first saw it, but I figured I'd throw this feeler up there in case it just doesn't work out cosmetically or tonally (I've gotten so used to the maple "thing" the last couple years). I say this because basses with rosewood fretboards just never seem to stick around for me for very long (though neither do Jazz basses in general, so who knows...).
Assuming I freak out and decide I can't live with a rosewood fretboard, ideally I'd be looking for something comparable in either ebony or maple- Allparts, USACG, Warmoth, or possibly nice Fenders or others. Ideally a J profile, though I'm not opposed to a P or somewhere in between if it's the right neck (my L2000 neck feels about perfect and is in between the 2). It would hopefully be in similar near-perfect condition, (though I'm not super picky when it comes to that stuff, as long as the frets and functional parts do their thing!) and come with tuners/nut (or have compatible holes for the tuners that are on my neck).
I feel ridiculous even posting such a thing, but I've gotten myself all antsy about it in the last couple days!
Thanks,
Karl
