FT/FS Feeler Lane Poor Jazz Pickup(s)

Sign in to disble this ad
--SOLD--

I recently purchased from another TBer what had been advertised as a "set" of Lane Poor Jazz pickups. In actuality, they are a pair of bridge size pickups. I am considering having my bass routed a bit to fit them, but thought I would explore a couple of options first.

Option 1: Ideal would be to trade one of them for a matching neck sized pickup. The bridge pickup has to be the more valuable--it can be combined with a P pickup--but I would gladly trade straight across. Does anyone have one?

Option 2: I would consider selling them for what I paid -- $300. They were also described as being "high output", but I can't vouch for that. The guy who made them (not Lane Poor, but Adam at APC Custom who worked for Lane back in the day) recommended pairing them with an Aguilar OPB-3, so the output wouldn't be an issue anyway.

Thanks for looking.

Are you *sure* these are both bridge pickups? In the photos it really looks like one is shorter than the other.

Yes, sadly, they are both bridge pickups--identical in size. The pictures do make them look different, though, don't they? I didn't think to ask to make sure when I bought them for that reason (well, that along with the "set" description).

hmmm
I've owned a couple of pairs of LP jazz pickups and have a set on my hoyt fretless... "high output" doesn't describe any LPs I've known. As I recall the jazz pickup review years back said the pair had the best tone but required an onboard preamp due to the low output.

I'm a bit skeptical of the claim too, based upon what I have read. Adam at APC Custom (super nice guy, and from whom I will likely buy a set of pickups if I end up selling these) apparently posesses a pair of high output LP jazz pickups. He does not want to sell them to "anyone he likes," however, but rather to get absolute top dollar for them when he is in need of some cash. He does not recall any other set having been made (and he apparently made them all), but they were made a long time ago, so who knows.

I picked up a Delano onboard preamp to go with them, and would recommend that approach for anyone who wanted them. Running them passive into an Aguilar Tone Hammer, outboard Sadowsky, etc., would probably do the trick as well. I suppose you could just crank the input on your preamp as well, if they are indeed low-output.

Mr. Redpants, could I ask you, since you are familiar with them, to give a brief accounting of what they sound like, how they compare to other, more common, jazz pickups? I know I would like to have your take.

I'll take 'em if you're going to sell them. PMed.
