These pickups and pre go very well together. They were mine and kick some arse!! Plus, Duke is the man!
Great price, too.

From 4or 5 String?
The lipstick pups show considerable wear/scratches, though photos are not too clear...

The bass itself is still my #1 by a long shot. And, truth be told, I wish I had held on to the original electronics. After much experimenting it was pickup placement on the Scheff that was bugging me. And I've since fixed that by adding a third pickup to my Scheff. (A precision in the "P position".)
This is top-notch stuff here. And at $200 for the whole she-bang, it's a great deal. The pickups are warm and "tubey" sounding to my ears. The pre is three band with an internal dipswitch to choose mid freq cut/boost. (250/500/850/1,000hz? Something like that. I usually kept it on 500hz.)
Hope all this helps!

Just kidding, I'm a Scheff owner. Obviously.
Duke 12:
I'd be careful stating that you can just drop in these pickups in a body routed for standard jazz spacing and get the Scheff tone. The spacing on the Scheff is a considerable factor in the tone, as Diaper Geni has indicated.
Diaper Geni:
I'm surprised the pickup placement was bugging you. It's part of the magic of a Scheff to me. I'll admit you could probably get more "fat thump" with something in the P-Bass sweet spot, but I get great tone and presence from my Scheff Skyline 5. I wouldn't change a thing. Heck, even my drummer asks "where's the Scheff" everytime I pick up any of my other basses. To each his own, I'm glad you got the tone you wanted.
If I had a testbed bass to play with I'd buy these in a second, they're none too common.
RumblebeeAL: More parts for your Schefenstein!

Hmmm... Guess we've never met. My name is Bruce and I can't stop myself from f*cking with my gear.
I prolly just didn't say it well. The original Scheff pickup placement is great! Love it!! BUT, I was just missing that "center" pickup when I wanted it. IOW: I got a great P bass, a great J bass, and a great Scheff all in one!!
And don't worry about Tris. He's a stand up guy. I've done some deals with him over the years and he's been nothin' but a joy to deal with.

I just installed and tested the Armstrong Chrome Lipstick pickups on my custom 06 Skyline Jerry Scheff Fretless CAR bass. This bass was built for and owned by Brian at Lakland. The only thing lacking was the Armstrong Lipstick pups... She's all dressed for a night out on the town with that distinctive growl tone.
Now, what to do with the spare electric guts and knobs... I suppose I'll save them for a rainy day... j/k
Thanks again for a smooth transaction!
