Hey thanks. The pickup shells are the same size, but the string spacing on the Fender V is 18mm @ the bridge, vs. 19mm for a Lakland.
Measuring from the center line between the 2 G-poles to the center line between the 2 B-poles, I get the following with the stock Fender pickups:
Neck - 2.625" (2 5/8)
Bridge - 2.75" (2 3/4)
Measuring center of outer G-pole to center of outer B-pole, I get:
Neck - 2.875" (2 7/8)
Bridge - 3.00"
And just to be anal (because I am), outside edge of outer G-pole to outside edge of outer B-pole gives me:
Neck - 3.094" (3 3/32)
Bridge - 3.156" (3 5/32)
I prefer the strings to line up between the poles, but I also know that it matters less that they are perfectly aligned and more that the strings sit completely in the magnetic field when vibrating.
I'm interested, but I want to verify the spacing issue before I commit to anything. My gut feeling is that it'll be just fine. The pragmatic engineer in me says "measure 4 or 5 times and install once"...
Thanks again.
