I bought this so I could record my son's drum practices on GarageBand, but I found that recording drums with a single overhead mike ain't no good. I need an interface with at least four XLR inputs. It also works with other software recording programs, like CuBase, Abelton, Logic, and ProTools. It's about the simplest, easiest way to record guitar and vocals (or any other two inputs) and get professional-sounding results.
The Fast Track connects to your Mac (or PC, if you have one of those) via the USB port and you're ready to rock. It's got a 1/4" input for instruments (guitar, bass, keyboards), plus an XLR microphone input for vocals or other acoustic sounds. USB cable included, but no box or software (M-Audio site has all the downloads.)
