Nordstrand NJSE4 Jazz Bass Pickups

Sign in to disble this ad
Matched set of Nordstrands for Jazz Bass. Had them briefly in 62 RI Jazz but decided to got back to stock. Comes with covers, mounting screws and in original box. Wires were not trimmed, covers not installed.

From Cary's site:

nj4se
humbucking split coil 4 string jazz-type bass pickups

These are a split coil hum cancelling design. They use the same hand wound pattern found on our NJ4's but with a finer wire called 43 gauge enamel. The natural character of this design is to have a more pronounced lower midrange, and a slightly muted high end. This makes them exceptionally suited to fingerstyle players who are going for a solo bridge pickup sound with good "bark" and "heft." They are also totally humcancelling, and great for commonly noisy live situations.

For Sale/No Trades $180 shipped in CON US

SOLD

I'm confused about the whole size/uneven thing. Fender in its plethora of iterations is as confusing as Harley Davidson that way. What will/won't these pickups fit? Broad question I know but I don't know how else to ask it.

On most fender and fender style jazz basses, the bridge pickup is slightly longer than the neck pu. Don't know why but AFAIK it's been that way from beginning. There may be dome exceptions, probably for Squires other fender variants. These pickups should fit the majority of fender and fender style jazz basses.

Or were you referring to the pole pieces? Sometimes A and.D pole pieces are slightly higher than other 2 to compensate for rounder 7.5 " radius.

Or were you talking about pickup wire winding? Some believe that part of what makes old pickups sound good is the fact ghat they were hand wound and so the distribution of wire on bobbins is uneven. All very subjective.

Hope that covers it. These are great pickups. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks! I was just talking about the length part and physical fit. Didn't know the thing about pole pieces. I know there is all sorts of black magic surrounding wiring and magnets, etc.

I've have Nordy NJ4SE's on my 09 American Standard and had SV's on my Hill. For me, I prefer the SE's because my band does 90's alternative and I play with a heavy pick to get that dark modern sound. I can easily ape my Rickenbacker 4003's tone without the single coil 60Hz buzz. You can get an awesome barky, mwah tone fingerstyle when you solo the bridge and roll off the tone, too.

Read this little bassplayer article explaining some of the black magic of the SE's and SVs. These are great pickups.

I loved the sound of the pickups. Did just think they fit with the old school vibe of my Fullerton AV Jazz Bazz. I don't have another jazz or I'd hold onto them.

The string spacing is wider at the bridge than it is at the nut, so the strings are farther apart at the bridge PU position than they are at the neck PU position.

Of course! Don't know why that never occurred to me.

Pickups still available. Save $50 over price of new ones.
