Wink Old School 80's P Bass Neck w Tuners, Just Leveled - $120 Shipped!

Sign in to disble this ad
and SOLD!

I bought this neck along with a body here on TB. I'm keeping the body and putting my '79 P bass neck on it. I'm selling the neck that came with the body here. Below is the original decription from the seller here on TB. Neck was on a real Fender body and there was almost no gap in the pocket (nice snug fit).

I'll also add that the slot on the nut for the A string is but just a hair low, but you can shim the nut or raise the slot with epoxy. I'm just being picky. Otherwise his assesment below is accurate:

"The neck is a JB Player neck from the 80's. I stripped the original lacquer and refinished the neck with Minwax and Tru Oil rather badly. There are some close ups of where I had difficulty removing some lacquer by the nut and heel. This does not affect playability at all. Looks bad but the back of the neck feels good. The truss rod adjustment is at the heel of the neck and works fine. Frets have been leveled and dressed, the tuners are MIM Fender, and the nut is water buffalo horn. I screwed up and drilled through the headstock when I was installing the tuners. I took close ups of this and a gouge by the D tuner that I made when uninstalling the old tuner ferrules. None of this affects sound or playability in the slightest."

and SOLD!

Fender used 3 different necks in the 80's.

1. The standard E3 necks that had the truss rod adjustment at the headstock.
2. The leftover S8 and S9 70's necks.
3. reissue necks.

Is this for sure a US Fender neck from the 80's? If so barring neck number one it would have to be one of the other two. The fretboard near the headstock does not have the typical reissue look to it and I am not sure the back of the headstock looks like it was drilled for the reissue tuners. It looks like a slab board though.

I ask about this because Mr. Caca Kick is looking for a replacement Fullerton reissue jazz neck. Maybe this could be what he is looking for?

OMG I am slow. I thought JB stood for Jazz Bass and it was a players neck cause it was stripped.

I am really missing that hour of sleep.

From what I was told, JB Player was making clones in Japan in the 70's and/or 80's and this is a neck from one of those P bass clones much like Electra, Ibanez, etc were making back then. It's a nice neck and feels very high quality. But being an old clone neck, I can't justify asking more that $120ish for it.
