Parting Out a 1972 Precision

Sign in to disble this ad
I had my all original '72 3TS Precision bass listed for sale a week or so ago and I took it off the market because I didn't like the way a finish crack was looking.

As it turns out, the finish crack is actually a crack in the wood, and while it might be repairable if I stripped the finish, did the repair, and had it refinished, I have decided to part out the bass. I believe this is the only way for me to recoup most of my original investment. It pains me to no end to do this, but I really don't have a choice.

I have posted pics in subsequent posts, but if you want to see something specific, just let me know.

Again, all of these pieces are original equipment from my '72 P-bass.

Here's what I have....
  • Neck - this neck is in awesome shape with a "B" neck profile and a rosewood board. Frets are in good shape and truss rod moves freely. Does not include tuners. Date Stamped Apr 72 B. It has one very small cigarette burn on the head...like most do from that era. - SOLD
  • Pickups - grey bottoms, One is stamped "1162" (1=Monday, 16=16th week, 2=1972) and the second is stamped "4162" (4=Friday, 16=16th week, 2=1972) - SOLD
  • Tuners - Four tuners with all hardware and screws. A couple are a little loose, but they never came out of tune - SOLD
  • Case - Original tolex, with orange velvet case with Fender logo with tail. A couple of stains on the outside, but all latches work and it is generally pretty good shape. - Sold
  • Neck Plate - "F" series with serial number 345471. Comes with 4 original mounting screws. - SOLD
  • Bridge - Generally in good shape with all original screws including the long "G" intonation screw. - SOLD
  • Pots - Bass, treble pots and input jack. - SOLD
  • Thumbrest - with original mounting screws - SOLD
  • String Tree - with mounting screw - Was $25....now $15
  • Strap Buttons - with mounting screws - SOLD
  • Knobs - two chrome barrel knobs, which I believe will also fit on a Telecaster. - SOLD

I'm hanging onto the pickguard for now, and I will probably put the body up for sale at some point, but I need to get some indication of what it might be worth first.

Payment via PayPal or USPS Money Order. Please let me know if you have any specific questions. Shoot me a PM or send me an e-mail to peabody59@hotmail.com.

Thanks for looking!

A lot of stuff is gone, but there is still some great stuff left. Don't miss out!

The price on the case is now $200 shipped....

You will not find a nicer vintage case for this price.

The bridge is also still available.....also a steal at $100 The bridge is sold and headin' east...

...as is the string tree (for $15)

All perfect for your restoration project...

It's not kind of sad...it's very sad. It has killed me to part this bass out. Unfortunately with the crack in the body, the bass I paid over $2000 for was now worth a heckuva lot less.

However, by selling it piece by piece (as painful as it has been), I have been able to get my original investment back...which has helped me finance the purchase of a '73 P bass (with an awesome "A" neck)...which I have no intention of parting out.

The sum of the parts....

Everything has been sold except the string tree (and the pickguard, but that's in another thread). It could be that one last piece to make your restoration project complete.
