Parting Out: 1989ish Squier HM-5

Hey Guys,

So I think I have learned that I'm not a 5 guy. I bought this not too long ago as an experiment, and...well....the experiment is over.

So what I have here for partout is an 80's Squier HM-5. It actually sounds pretty darn good to my ears with the stock equiptment. There is a rumor about the parts from these basses that I can't confirm or deny....some have said that these basses/guitars were made shortly after the transition from Japanese makers to Korean, and that the parts were actually made in Japan, but assembled in Korea. I have no way of knowing this is true, but thats what I told myself to make me feel like I had a little better bass. They really do feel like they are well made parts, though, wherever they were made. If I felt more comfortable on a 5 (oh and didn't have such bad GAS), I would probably be keeping it.

There are some issues, though, that make me a little hesitant to sell it whole to somebody, though, hence the part out. I'll describe them below. Prices are shipped to lower 48 only. If you want it, and you are outside that area, PM me and we'll work it out.

Body - $95 shipped
Has a fair amount of what looks to be pic marks. Don't know if they could "buff out". There is also a chip by the input jack that is showing grey (primer?). I will get better pics tonight to completely show it. Will ship with input jack, rear cover, neck plate and screws.

Bridge - $20 shipped
Looks to be high mass, ish. Decent shape, just dirty. Will get spacing tonight, but I know its tight. I'll give it a cleaning before it goes out though.

Knobs - $9 shipped for the set of 3
black, push on, with an position dot.

PJ Pups - $25 shipped
These are your standard size PJ. I actually won't be terribly sad if these don't sell, because they really seem to have some sort of magic (completely subjective here, so your results may vary! ). This bass was my first PJ, though, so it may be that I just found what I like.

Tuners - $25 shipped
They seem a little lose on the headstock right now, but as far as I can tell they function well enough.

Neck - $55 shipped
1.75" at the nut, and I think 2.75 at the heal. Will confirm. The neck is most of the reason for parting it out. I bought the bass without seeing it in person. The neck had a pretty good curve to it. I performed the truss rod adjustment but it bottomed out. I took the nut off, and put in a number of washers, and adjusted again. That helped, but there is just a hint more relief than I would really like. In addition, the nut has come unglued. Its a type that I'm not really familiar with, and sits against the fretboard, on top of the headstock. Then finally, during the adjustment to the truss rod, some of the finish flaked off around the access hole. Not huge in my book, but just want to be upfront about everything.

I would be interested in some trades, if any are available. Mainly looking for a PJ body - MIM or aftermarket is fine but it HAS to have bridge holes drilled already. Ruined another body and am now gun shy. Would also be interested in an All Parts or a Warmoth neck, p width. Can combine parts and add cash where necessary. Probably some other parts I could use, so if you have something, PM me and we'll chat!

If somebody were to want the whole thing, shoot me a PM and we'll go from there.

Here are some pics to start, and I'll get more specific ones up this evening!

Thanks!
