Sign in to disble this ad
Got a squier affinity body, stripped and sanded, has stain on it (probably used as a sanding sealer) so a light fine sanding and its ready for paint. This one is nice and light too. $80 shipped in US48

Were older models made of plywood? Because when they first came out i remember a friend taking some finish off and seeing the plywood layers.

I've stripped 4 different aged Squier Affinities and never found plywood.

Sometimes the bouts are different pieces, like a Rickenbacker though.

The Squier II models that were solid colors and rear routed (most of them were red that I ever saw) w/ maple necks were plywood, but the necks were fabulous.

good deal on a ready to paint body - good luck bump

I have a '94 Squier (not II) MIK, front routed, that's plywood. I also have a '89 Squier II MIK front routed that is not plywood. Both have maple fretboards. The '89 has an awesome neck. The '94 is warped. I bought it (cheap) for the body before I knew it was plywood. I'm still trying to figure out how to determine if a body's plywood from the outside in advance. Looks like the arm contour is very sharp edged where it meets the flat part of the body.

Oh, and PM sent, Don!

The easiest way to tell (and really the only way if its painted) is in the neck pocket and control cavities. You can see the layers.

In my experience, other than usually being heavier, laminated bodies aren't always bad. I used to be afraid of them but after having a few different kinds of laminated bodies, they usually sound fine.
