So, I have a '78 Fender Jazz that I had refinished in root beer brown, Audere preamp added, and neck converted from 3-bolt to four bolt.
I'm thinking about selling the neck. Which is pretty unthinkable, but I have a sweet Moses graphite neck that needs a home. Since my '78 Jazz has lost its collector's value anyway (refin, preamp, 4-bolt conversion), I figure I may as well try other necks.
This sale is VERY tentative at the moment, but I just want to see if there's any interest. I reserve the right to come to my senses at any time.
The neck has a natural flamed maple to the back, very cool looking, nice aged headstock, and pearl block inlays. Like I said, I had it converted to a 4-bolt, so it should fit a standard Fender neck pocket. The neck is in very good shape, with only a few dings here and there. Comes with original chrome tuners which are amazingly shiny given their age.
A couple things:
1. It's probably due for a re-fret. I have flatwounds on it now and it plays very well, but it's 32 years old, and the frets have clearly been leveled in the past.
2. I sanded down the back of the neck to make it smoother. I applied a little liquid wax to give it a sheen but that could be taken off. It originally had a thick gloss. If you want the thick gloss back, you'd have to refinish it.
3. There is a creme binding that shows a little wear but overall looks in good shape.
4. I do not have the original neck plate but will throw in a generic plain one.
Below are pictures of the bass before the refinish. The neck, other than the 4-bolt conversion, is the same as it was in these pics.
There's a similar 1974 Fender Jazz neck in worse shape for $895 buy it now + 17 shipping.
Given that, I'd be willing to part with my neck for
$675 shipped - Lower 48.
