VHT Valvulator tube buffer & pedal power supply

Sign in to disble this ad
Heavily used, but fully functional & great sounding VHT Valvulator. (now sold under Fryette brand) http://www.sfdamp.com/valvulator.html
(also listed in effects classified)

Real 12ax7 high-voltage tube buffer/line driver. Unity gain output matches guitar's volume exactly, but buffers signal to drive long cable runs and pedal chains while preserving tone. Responds like a real tube guitar amp's input!

Also powers your pedals. 4 isolated dc outputs: 3x 9volt and 1x 12volt.

Works great and includes original manual.

Sells for over $200 new, I'm willing to let it go for $125 shipped to the 48 contus!:

From a pm regarding this sale:

I'm letting the Valvulator go because I just haven't used it in over a year. My main bass pedalboard is employing a Barge Concepts GLZ-1 for buffering. My guitar board is using an always-on compressor. (I know, I know... I don't use an "always-on" comp on bass, but I do for guitar. Probably because I'm a sketchy guitarist! )

I still really like the unit & would be keeping it if:
a) I didn't already have a set up that's working perfectly for me.
b) I put together another board. Having a great buffer and pedal power supply in one is great!

I did use this Valvulator for at least 6 years on my bass board. It always worked great & gave me no problems. I did a lot of international travel with it as well - lots of flights, tours and general abuse. Occasionally I would make sure that the tube was seated well - but that's it.

-The manual says that the Valvulator "feels" more like plugging straight into a tube amp. They're right! It really does respond like an amps front-end. A tiny amount of compression (more like limiting) when you really dig in and play hard.
-The audio signal is very quiet. The unit itself does make an audible noise when powered on, though. Only something you hear in a quiet room when it's a foot from your head. It doesn't pass that sound through the audio - it's probably the transformer itself. I think this is normal.
-The Valvulator is totally clean - no clipping or "fur" at all. Even with a very hot signal. Don't expect to get tube saturation out of it. It spits out exactly what you put into it & at an identical volume level.
-I don't think that the Valvulator appreciably "colors" the tone. Other than the tiny bit of limiting, the output sounds just like your raw signal.
