vintage Fender Jazz body

Sign in to disble this ad
I received this as part of a trade over the weekend from a local guy, but I really don't have any use for it and I don't have the time to take on projects.

This is a Fender Jazz body from the 1970's. Made of ash, a little heavy at 5.5 lbs according to the bathroom scale method.

As you can tell, it's seen better days: most of the original sunburst finish on the front was stripped, but is mostly intact on the sides and on the back. It was converted to a 4 bolt at one point. There's some visible finish cracks on the front and back.

Asking $470 OBO shipped for this beat to h*ll piece of history.

Would probably make a fun restoration project, or just play it as is and call it a relic!

will consider a trade for a natural or black Precision body

Could you help me identify the cross-grain lines? Pencil? Scratches? Discoloring from finish cracks before finish was removed?

They are finish cracks... it looks like it happened from the overtightening of screws.

It does not feel like the stripped portion of the body is bare wood, maybe an undercoat of finish is still on there? It feels kind of like a satin.

Here's a better picture that highlights the cracks:
