WTB: Single Tuner and cheapo pickup

Looking for a single tuner and pickup. I'm doing some sound demos for a school science exhibit and one demo I want to do is basically to make a single string stick bass. This would be a maple plank with one string and tuner. The pickup would be connected to an oscilloscope and speaker so they can see the string vibrate both mechanically and electrically as well as hear the sound. I don't want to use one of my basses, since there will be about 250 kids playing with this.

Anybody got some leftover pieces they can part with cheaply?
