Looking for cheap bass in Florida

Hello Everyone, I have a good friend who's eldest son has decided to start taking lessons on classical bass. Yes, there is still hope. However, he doesn't have a bass. That's where we come in. His dad (my friend) is looking for a cheap instrument. I mean if possible, free. If it has holes in it: fine. If the neck is broken: cool. Cheap or free are the key words. I'll worry about fixing it up so it's playable. Oh, yeah. And a bow. Same qualities: Cheap or free. I appreciate any leads you may have. And you are welcome to forward this post to as many people as you care to who may have possible leads. This has to be available in Florida. Thanks

I don't play the upright anymore but you could try the local high schools and colleges and ask around, maybe this time of year somebody might want to sell their instrument whatever the reason is. Schools might be holding instruments (especially String Basses) in need of repair. Middle and High Schools might know of shops that they do business with and go from there......
Of course there is always Craigs List , Best of luck ..
