Hi everyone, love the forum here on TALKBASS, just saying! Listen, I'm heading back to school soon to finish up some old business, and I need to find myself a Double Bass to work on. Since it will be in the classical music genre, it's imperative that it plays well in the thumb-position - my budget is limited because I am a student. With a German Bow to boot..!! Very seriouse!!
If a plywood bass would be suitable for your purposes, I have a Wilfer 3/4 in the classifieds for $1500 with cover. The bass could use a fingerboard planing but is otherwise in good health.
I will be driving from Albany to Pittsburgh for a wedding next month, and could meet you near Buffalo if we work out a deal.

Thanks Kungfu - but I'm looking for a "hybrid" bass or a fully carved under the $5000.00
No worries! I'm looking for something similar, and will be happy to pass along anything I come across but decide not to pursue.
Hey Kunfu, I have been taking a close look, at not only the Karr bass but also the "Wan-Bernadel" offered at Upton. There seems to be alot of talk about this bass and it's high quality at a reasonable price.

If you're still looking, you should drop a line to the Music Go Round store in Natick, Massachusetts. They just sent me pictures of a carved flatback Andrew Schroetter from 1984 that didn't look too bad. It has an ugly neck heel repair and the biggest saddle I've ever seen on a bass, but for $1K US it would seem to have a lot of potential. I've seen people trying to sell those basses for four or five grand.
