Here's a set atop a red Brio...note the two are of different widths, so you can use one, the other, or both for varying degrees of mutossity.

The mutes will accommodate a 5 as well as a 4.
I can often ship the same day I get the order, next day at the latest.

Big difference. I was able to use more volume because the mutes dampened down that legendary Barker sustain.
My next step is to get a set of those LaBella Deep Talkin' flats. I don't expect to reproduce the sound of my Shen upright bass, but I do expect to get a respectable sound that will emulate the thump of the upright, and won't get me ostracized from bluegrass circles when these old-timey traditionalist guys show up in their overalls with their acoustic instruments. |

That configuration has not been paraded past the Barker Instruments Assessment Team with their annoying white smocks and clear acrylic clipboards. I think you're onto something.
Years ago, in my brief experience dipping my toe into the Bluegrass world, I was always impressed with the Hot Rize cat who played an electric bass guitar (gasp!) and as if that weren't enough, it was red. And I should add it was not just red, it was RED!!
But if those acoustic-equipped traditionalists show up with a strand of straw in the mouth, I'd be very afraid, even if my only potential transgression were a benign 9 volt battery in my pocket.
That being said, music heals all...

It was something of a sonic explosion for me .... the tapewounds sounded whimpy and muddy compared to the flats. I noticed a significant increase in tone definition immediately, as did my band mates 
But I have nothing of value to add with regard to flats with the mutes ... I'm interested in hearing your opinion once you get the flats on the bass .....  |
