Early Barker Bass B1 for sale--Rare! Unusual! Pedigreed!

Out of a forgotten corner of the Vault comes this rare bird: Serial Number 007. That means it is a symmetrical body. If you like those teeny notes, they are hard to get to on this model.

It is a used bass. It has traveled some, and most recently was played in a Violent Femmes concert in August. You'll get a picture of Brian Ritchie and the Old Man and the bass taken in his dressing room after the gig.

Is it pretty? My gosh, it is a one of a kind bass. When you hear "birdseye" you naturally expect "maple" to follow. This is Birdseye PINE which alone puts it in a class all by itself.

It could be a wall hanger of great interest and beauty, or it could be a daily driver. Or both!

But wait there's more. This thing has been involved in a Police Matter, actually a Sheriff Matter, in Florida. It was given to a con man who represented himself as someone else. The perp was apprehended and the "goods taken under false pretenses" were returned to the owner, Barker Musical Instruments. Copies of all the papers from the detective's reports to the notifications of hearings, etcetera, will be included. It's the kind of stuff they love on Antiques Roadshow.

But can I play it, you ask? Well, the action is a bit high, but some like it like that. Does it sound like a Barker? You bet. Those fantastic Seymour Duncan Basslines pickups are in there just doing their thing, and it's got buckets and buckets of tone.

If you'd like a picture of Barker Bass #007, I'll email you one. If you want to buy it, it will require a credit card transaction in the sum of $1600 plus shipping which will be $75 in the US. Beyond that we'll have to investigate.

Give it some thought: Single digit serial number. One of a kind dazzling wood. Played by a giant (who owns his own Barker, by the way). Did I say "single digit serial number"?
