A Thought to Ponder about BVB

Sign in to disble this ad
The Barker Vertical bass. I was thinking about the concept behind it, and how much it has revolutionized the instrument. To be completely relieved of pain when playing. To be able to play a seemingly weightless instrument, and have tone that is so rich and smooth. The Barker bass does not need a player to have stage presence, it defines itself with the catchy style of its body, and its killer tone.

I am feeling like the BVB is getting over looked and under appreciated for everything that it has brought to the industries table.

I know how you feel. I am still experiencing tendon problems that, without my Barker would have made it almost impossible to play by now. Treatment is dragging on and on but my Barker never fails me. And the sound is fantastic.

All I can do is spread the word by playing, literature, and let them hear it. I have learned to just listen to the remarks around me and wait until I'm inevitably approached. It's amazing I can still hear well enought to catch the comments going on around me: "hey what the #$%# is that?!" "but it has frets too!" "boy it sounds so warm" " it looks so cool! " etc, etc.

I wonder how long it took for Leo Fenders contributions to bass history to catch on?

As I read this thread, I'm playing Lee's video "Handled with Care" in the back ground. Mmm. Love that Hussain Jiffry song, "Cannes Tune."

I last gigged my BVB at a wedding reception. I brought a Fodera, an F Bass, and my BVB, and guess what people were coming up to me to talk about? The Barker most definitely has its own "stage presence." Well said, Will.

Speaking of Barkers and YouTube videos, I must say that I'm tempted by your "Join In Anytime" video to, well, join it.

It would be cool to take the end of that video, loop it, and then add to it with another player on another Barker, then let another player take THAT video, and add to it, etc.

Excellent!

This could be really fun!

By the way, here is a quick recording I did this morning. You'll recognize that the bass playing is Will from his YouTube video.

This is NOT what I had in mind, but I thought you guys might get a kick out of it anyway.

Cheers!
Tom
