Timing

They say timing is most of it in life. I have to say, the timing worked well for us to meet Lee. I have been having some serious picking hand problems that I have been keeping to myself of late. (I hate whining even when I'm the one doing it!)

The advanced carpal tunnel syndrome has reached the point where there is some muscle wasting. The wheels of the medical profession are turning slowly and yet another appointment with a hand specialist won't be until mid-May.
Until then, I have been relying on nutrition, rest and my Barker bass. Absolutely no way I would be playing without it right now.

Life's funny. (By funny I mean funny peculiar not funny ha-ha )

Joel, I've been pondering this post for some time and no obvious reply has formed around the speech center in my cerebral cortex.

Bummer. I wish I knew and understood more about the affliction. We all likely "know someone who...." but I'll steer away from those comments.

Rest is a good thing where repetitive motion is an issue. But it doesn't get your feet to feeling warm and fuzzy like standing next to a bass amp does.

Coincidentally I have been playing a lot lately, having accepted a position in a pit band for a Patsy Cline Revue to be presented in mid May. 28 or 9 songs, including overtures and the like, and sometimes I feel like I'm in over my head. Fortunately the other musicians, while being talented giants, are also patient.

Anyway, lots of eighth notes in some of those songs, and I'm putting in a couple of hours a day (even grabbing a half hour at lunch) and I can feel the tenderness in my wrists. It spooks me a little. I intend to go back and read Randy Wertz' book about preventing bassist injuries again.

Know that you have a community of players on this forum who are in support of you, and I know that the right path will present itself and you'll be back at 100% before you can say, "What key is this in?"

Kindly,

Lee

In the context of Joel's band, which I saw for the first time yestreday at a town park "concert night", the Barker fits PERFECTLY! The look,, the voice, the everything!

Best thing is, to keep Joel playing, he is an excellent bassist with great feel, i.e, he's in da pocket!

Good work Lee!

Signed, the proverbially " day late, dollar shy " Buffalo Bass.
