Question lightweight jazz

I'm looking for an ultra lightweight jazz bass. Has anyone tried Wormoth's chambered bodies? Are they that much lighter? Any suggestions?

Pbass Lyte

Hi:

You might want to have a look at a Fender PBass Lyte. They were made between 1990 and 1995 I think. They are a precision bass with a jazz neck, well built with a great sound. Should be able to get one for under $400.00 I use mine for gigs were I have to stand for the whole night like for 3 or 4 sets. I included a pic of mine.

Take a look at Sadowsky NYC chambered standard basses (not the ultra vintage which are bigger). These basses tend to be in the 7 lb range.

Judging by the pics on the Warmoth site...I'd say they'd have to be. Also, with a call: you can spec a lightweight solid body or indicate what weight you wish a solid or chambered to be - for an additional cost, btw. Add a neck with graphite support rods, your choice of bridge (maybe a Gotoh 201), and Sadowsky guts (they sell them), and you'd have as close to a Sadowsky as possible without the cost. OR you could go with the passive Varitone option of your choice for even less money, yet a nice selection of sounds with the right pups. Tone is a subjective topic for all of us...

If you look at the on-line inventory of Warmoth bodies, they typically list the weight of each piece in inventory. If they have both solid and chambered bodies in their existing inventory, you can compare.

If this doesn't work, you can always call Warmoth and talk to one of their sales people about specs and I'm pretty certain they can give you an accurate difference in the weights between typical solid and chambered bodies from the same wood types.

I have found their sales and support staff to be helpful in gathering info about specs in the past.

Hope this helps.

Just saw this for sale listing on TB from another member.

Fender Precision Lyte

I'm not associated with this member in any way. Only wanted to pass you the link from another TBer.

Good luck.

Koog.
