TPB welcomes Breedlove!!

The Prefect Bass is proud to present a new line of acoustic basses for our customers!

We have added Breedlove Acoustic Basses to our instrument lineup please take a look and let us know what you think!

I plan on spending some time with these instruments in detail in the near future and will follow up with a review soon. In the mean time, if anyone has experience with these basses in a live environment please let us know what you think!

If there is anything in particular that you would like me to check out on these basses let me know or if you have any general Breedlove questions please feel free to post them here.

Peace

I am interested in the Breedlove Atlas ABJ25/CR5 Plus, I would like to get some feedback on this bass if anyone has played or is playing one at the present time. I now play a Hohner HAB-40N. What I am looking for is a louder sound accoustically. Most of my playing is amplified which when plugged in the Hohner sounds great, but because of the small body, there is not much when played accoustically. I play in a trio with guitar, mandolin, and ABG.

Brandit, thanks for the link to the Bass Player site. I look foward to your personal thoughts on the bass. Let me know if you have any other products that are in that ball park.

Breedlove Atlas ABJ25/CR5 Plus

The entire Breedlove lineup is known for its sheer beauty and elegance and the ABJ25/CR5 Plus is the definition of a perfect first impression. This is how an Acoustic Bass should look, feel and make you feel the second it hits your hands. As always “First impressions can be deceiving”, but luckily for this 5 string Acoustic Bass there is little to be disappointed with. The design, build, fit and finish all receive an A+ from me without a doubt. Now, on to what really matters most when buying an Acoustic Bass, tone and playability. I found the fretwork and action great, this bass played well from top to bottom without any dead spots. This amazingly straight fret work, for an Acoustic Bass, may be attributed to the beefy neck which was a change from the 4 string P-Bass that I have gotten used to. I would have preferred a slimmer feel but the neck played well and didn’t bother me after a few minutes of playing. Plugged in the bass sounded great, the EQ as quiet and usable and the strings were well balanced from top to bottom. Acoustically I found the same volume balance to be true for the most part. I felt that the low B slightly dropped off in volume verses the killer open E.

The Breedlove Atlas ABJ25/CR5 Plus is a bargain in its price range; I haven’t seen another Acoustic Bass out there built to this quality for under $1,200. It also comes with a great looking hard shell case which is a great added value for the money.

Thumbs up I have one...

As a Christmas present to myself I got a Breedlove ABJ250/SM5 5 string ABG from eBay. I decided to pick up one of these after seeing the video on BassPlayer.tv. Everything said previously in this thread has been my experience so far, and this opinion of mine is tempered by the fact that the bass has dead strings on it at the moment (new ones are on the way). Maybe newer strings will help, but I'm still very impressed with this bass.

My thinking is that in a purely acoustic setting it will hold its own if the other instruments don't get "stupid" loud. "Regular" loud, it should be fine.

I played a few of these (fretted 4, fretted 5, and a fretless 4) when I was at the American Guitar Boutique in Maple Grove a couple months ago.

When/if I'm in the market for an acoustic/electric bass, these will most definitely be at the top of my very short list of contenders. I was highly impressed with them.
