1981 G&L F-100 hardtail 6-string, ash/ebony

For your consideration: a beautiful playing and sounding 1981 F-100 Series I (denotes a 12" radius vs 7 1/2" on the Series II) in natural ash with an ebony fingerboard. Finish has aged to a nice amber color. Check out the stunning grain on this puppy! And note that this is the harder-to-find hardtail model (and long since discontinued string-thru design).

The down and dirty: All original. G00xxxx serial number. Slot pole pickups. Some honest play wear (when you hear it you'll know why) but in beautiful shape otherwise. Basically looks like somebody played the heck out of it on stage and babied it offstage. The two areas of greatest wear (see pics) are the edge of the upper arm contour and some finish wear/grooving just below the high E where a previous owner obviously supported his picking hand. There's also a bit of finish wear along the upper edge of the neck pocket. Some finish checking and some chrome wear (bridge looks great though). The ebony board is in great shape but has some play wear "scalloping" under the higher strings on the 1st and 2nd frets (somebody was a heavy bender). Doesn't affect playability or compromise the instrument in any way. Frets appear to be original with lots of life left -- nice and even with a little bit of wear on the lower frets. Plenty of mileage left before fret dressing is required, I think. Nice action without the micro-tilt engaged, so it could go lower. Back of the neck shows little finish wear (just a tad along the fretboard edges) and just a couple of dings that don't affect playability. Glossy finish has been worn somewhat smooth by years of wood shedding. No closet queen this one, but has that vintage vibe of a Leo instrument that was made to be played.

$675 shipped (CONUS) in non-original tolex hard case (perfect fit). PM with questions. More pics can be found here (as usual, sorry for the lousy flash): http://s1110.photobucket.com/albums/...-100%20guitar/

The pictures really don't do it justice. I'm not a great guitarist, but I'm a worse photographer (actually, when I can snap pics outdoors I do okay ... but it's ~ 15 degrees outside right now with about 3 feet of snow on the ground). It might be the nicest looking ash body I've seen in person. It won't break my heart if it doesn't sell, but I've got 3 F-100s at the moment and need the scratch. The only reason this one's on the block is that the other two have maple boards, which I slightly prefer over ebony on a 6-string.

BTW y'all, just weighed her and she comes in right around 7.5 pounds. Not a featherweight, but pretty light for these older ash bodies.

Monday bump and a couple notes.

The question arose elsewhere, so I'll list it here too: The neck is 1 5/8" at the nut.

Also, for the uninitiated, the controls go like this:

- The knob closest to the bridge pup is volume, the middle is treble cut and the one nearest the jack is bass cut
- The big toggle is a 3-way pup selector
- The red mini-toggle switches between humbucker & coil tap modes
- The black mini-toggle switches the two pickups in and out of phase (when out-of-phase, the pup selector is disengaged)

Humpday bump for a sweet example of Leo's first guitar model after leaving Music Man. According to guitarsbyleo.com (the G&L fan site), only about 3500 of these were produced between 1980-86. Not saying this will be a big collector's item one day necessarily, but can you imagine if there were only that many 50s Telecasters floating around?

Get in on the Leo-era G&L stuff before the market gets hip! Considering all reasonable offers on this one ...
