1983 SQ Stratocaster
These early SQ Strats are excellent quality guitars. This one has a 10-6 '83 pencil
neck date, serial #SQ01449 and has Fender's Flat Oval neck shape. Slab rosewood
board, 7.25" radius and vintage fretwire .079" x .040" tall measuring the last fret. Measurements to describe the neck shape and carve:
width & thickess at nut: 1.675" wide, 0.944" thick
width & thickess at 1st: 1.710" wide, 0.815" thick
width & thickess at 3rd: 1.790" wide, 0.834" thick
width & thickess at 5th: 1.865" wide, 0.840" thick
width & thickess at 7th: 1.889" wide, 0.865" thick
width & thickess at 9th: 1.990" wide, 0.900" thick
width & thickess at 12th: 2.058" wide, 0.912" thick
This guitar sets up well and plays great! It once had a Kahler tremolo on it which is now
gone and the route professionally repaired (see photos). Correct early SQ trem with "Fender"
stamped saddles, original string trees, bullet trussrod nut and the rare early slotted tuners.
There's some extra routing near the middle pickup that's covered by the pickguard. Ceramic
pickups and replaced pickguard, pickups covers and knobs. Also replacement CTS pots, one
of which dates to 87. Not the nicest soldering work but I left it alone since everything works
with no problems.
This beauty has 30 years of natural relicing and finish distressing and weighs only 8 lb.
There's something about old wood, it just plays and sounds better!
