2 X Altec Model 9844A Speakers

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a pair of Vintage Altec Model 9844A Speakers, these are in good condition with the only issue being that the horn in one of the two isn't working, should be an easy repair. These are goin for between 1-2K but if you'll come get the you can have them for $500

Below is what they look like an the spec's. They have been converted to use 1/4 inputs but can easly be converted back.

Would consider possible bass or amp trades.

LOCAL ONLY on these.

Thanks,

Jay

These are pretty uncommon w/ good cosmetics. They sound extremely good when working correctly. I drove 6 hrs round trip for an ugly pair pulled out of a bar, and found that they hang in just fine with Klipschorns - no mean feat. They sound incredible with tubes and are very clean and efficient.

You should figure out if you've got a crossover issue or a HF diaphragm gone. Networks are pricey - phragms ain't. Also, I think 9844 were 1x15, while the 9844A were the 2x12" shown in the lit there.

Props for not parting them out for more $$. Let me know if you want any advice or guidance. I have a hi-fi history....

Do you know Cy at Affordable Audio? Don't know if he might know anyone interested but he digs tubes and is a really swell guy (not to mention being one of the most knowledgeable vintage Traynor guys in the US).

If I were close, I'd be on this.

Thanks for the info Ben, These have the 2 X 12's and the horn so they must be the 9844A's These are in pretty decent cosmetic shape. They came from a bar that use to be here in Richmond Va. in the 80's called "The Play Pen". I really don't know alot about vintage audio equiptment but we put a meter on the horn and it wasn't reading anything so that lead me to believe that it was the HF Diaphragm but like I said I really don't know alot about them.

Yea I had thought about parting them out but I would rather see them put to good use and not destroied becasue they are in good condition.

If you decide you are interested and are willing to pay for a freight company to ship them I'll work with you on the price a little.

I'll try to contact Cy at Affordable Audio, I don't know him but I'll see if he know's anyone that may want them.

Can you PM me your number I actually do have a question or two, I would like to get them in working condition if it's not going to cost me much.

Thanks,

Jay
