2003 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner (Central California)

I thought I'd post this here just to gauge interest while I prepare it for sale. Why here? Because while it can be difficult to talk the wife into a new bass, I can easily accept a bass plus cash for the truck. I'll have some pics up within a few days.

2003 Toyota Tacoma Xtra Cab Prerunner in Black Sand, 2wd, 4 cylinder 2.7 liter 3RZ engine, automatic transmission. SR5 package, rear sliding window and bedliner. 172,000 miles (90% freeway), clean title.

I bought this new in 2003, and it's been amazing. Aside from a few batteries and the usual maintenance items, it's only needed a new alternator - which was replaced last year. I had the tires replaced and had an alignment done around 6,000 miles ago. Battery was also recently replaced. I treated this truck like a truck - It's got a few minor dings, and some scratches here and there.

I bought a crew-cab Colorado to fit my growing family in, otherwise I wouldn't sell this truck - it's been good to me.

It's got two issues -

1) The CD player works intermittently - more often than not, it doesn't. Not sure why, and never really took the time to try to fix it.

2) It suffers from piston slap upon startup in cold weather, which from what I can ascertain is not entirely uncommon for these engines. During cold weather, I always let it fully warm up before driving. I've read that the problem can be remedied by the use of a thinner-weight oil in the cold months (0-30 rather than 5-30).

Asking $5,500 obo, which is the blue book value for this truck in "fair" condition.

I'm totally down for a bass-related trade + cash. Feel free to run anything by me, but here's a few things that might jump out at me -

A wenge-necked Thumb 5 BO
A good P/J of some sort
Fender American Deluxe Precision 5
Stingray 5
Fender MIA Jazz 4-string

I'm located in California's central valley (Fresno-Visalia area). My wife's due any day now, so if I don't respond to a PM or post, it's because I'm at the hospital meeting my baby girl!

Thanks!

That's a great-looking truck!

I have an '91 XtraCab Deluxe with 210,000 miles on it; these particular Toyotas are great for longevity. 90% freeway miles means yours is going to have MANY more miles in it.

Sweet! congrats on the new truck and kid addition. Any interests in a Sadowsky Metro 5, ken smith 5, or any epifani gear plus cash? I can email pics.

Thanks,

It really has been an awesome truck, and it's never let me down. I'm going to be a little bummed to see it go. Even my wife is a little sad that it has to go...
