I've grown to love this guitar, it's comfy and expressive, and sounds like a rock n roll beast through a Marshall ,
I searched eBay, Craig's, G-base & TGP for months looking for this, very few of the Blk '74's around, and what I've found were priced astronomically high.
Frets are all there, no real fret wear I can see.
some scratches on back, but front and sides are extremely clean.
There was a headstock repair done in '77,
stability and sustain are great, no issues at all for me or last owner (I am the third owner)
VIDEO OF BACK OF HEADSTOCK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hw75X...e_gdata_player
This guitar has incredible sustain, low action, new strings..
Well cared for, straight neck.
Bridge pu changed to diamarzio super distortion Humbucker in mid 70's
Coil splitting switch( aka"Jimmy page" mod)
Heavy brass bridge and tailpiece added in mid 70s
Older brown/pink type LP case
Witch hat knobs are Gibson stock, but not original, last owner had heavy,70's brass knobs on it, which I changed to the period correct type.
The front & side of body is very clean, just a little cloudiness, (which I guess could be buffed to a shine if that's your thing)
But the back of the body has some scratches,
My buddy, who bought this in '77 from the original owner, asked about the scratches on the back and was told this story:
One day, while playing in a bar, Greg Allman walked in, the LP's owner asked him to sign it, they decided a marker wouldn't show up, and Greg proceeded to scratch,"Let the Good times Roll,G.A." with a key. I kinda believe it, since you'd have to be nuts to scratch your LPC up unless it was really someone special, right?
May be true, who knows? but it's in back and u kinda forget it's there, almost like buckle rash..it's in back and hidden.
An unmodified '74 black beauty goes for way more,I've seen some '74's on Gbase up to $4500, my price reflects the modifications and repair.
Guitar sounds/ sustains great. Really nicelead guitar, reliable and stays in tune, no buzzing or issues.
I'm a working bassist, all my gigs are on bass,
and she's been sitting in the case, unplayed..
