IBM T20 (has a common power issue) :|: FOR TRADE
Based on this article that I
found, I have been leaving the battery out of this machine, and have been able to power the laptop up without any problems. The key is making sure that it doesn't sit powered down with any power supplied to it (ie. I have to pull the power connector and take the battery out)
Apparently there is a capacitor on the motherboard that gets overloaded when the computer goes into standby, and it doesn't drain with the battery or power adapter hooked up. So it appears that without the battery in place, this is a perfectly functioning computer. I can't bring myself to spend the $150 that I was quoted to have it repaired (I can get you that exact info if you're interested) as I spent a ton getting a newer DVD Reader / CD Writer for it.
So that being said, here's what I'm offering:
IBM T20
Pentium III 700Mhz Processor
128MB RAM
40GB HD (Windows 2000)
CD Writer / DVD Reader
Floppy Drive
28.8 Modem
Wireless adapter (this was included when I got it, but never installed, as you have to remove the modem to use it)
14" LCD
Feel free to ask me any questions that you can think of. It KILLLS me that this machine isn't working for me anymore. I've been watching new motherboards on eBay and they go for < $100 which would definitely take care of it. With all that I had invested in this machine we decided to cut our losses.
OH, any bass/guitar/PA/effects related trades will be considered.
