TASCAM 34B REEL TO REEL. NEEDS REPAIR

Sign in to disble this ad
really just a feeler. Will supply photos if there is interest. Here is a Tascam 34B. It was given to me in perfect working condition. (lucky guy) It mysteriously is no longer working. Took it to a shop, was quoted at about $250 in repair on top of the $50 I spent getting it checked. (needs capsan assembly replaced, does that sound right?) basically the reel bangs the top of the machine as it spins. (I think a friend of mine knocked it over when I left it at his place. He denies that...) Anyway I couldn't justify spending that.

I'll start at $150 or best offer. Let me know if you think that's way out of line. There is one 34B on ebay right now that also needs repair. Its at $75 now and its got a day and a half left so that was my best guess.

Thanks!

I have a Pioneer RT-707 which works great except that the rewind doesn't always stop on the dime. Your model should go for what you want despite its current defect. This medium is not for everybody and it is like buying a time machine into the past. I ended up beginning a project of transferring reel tapes to digital. It didn't pay. this unit would also record that too is not work the effort. the saving grace for this is that any money invested is worth it. Your tascam looks like a great unit. The best thing about this old technology is that it still works great and you don't have to buy current software, a PC or a Mac and all the other stuff to get any results. Currently for recording I am using a Korg D-3200 which is a great stand alone unit. Maybe somebody locally will buy it from you. Sincere good luck.....
