Bruce,

I finally got around to reading through "Doing It The Slow Way". Thanks for posting that link, I really appreciate it. It's a great article full of truth. I think everyone should read it. I realize that my previous posts are a result of frustration with the "slow way".

Joe

FREE TJ soloing videos on YouTube.com!!!

Hi Friends,

I've finally gotten my YouTube "MUSIC" page together.....

I've got some videos of me soloing over "Autumn Leaves" and "Green Dolphin Street"....plus I'm also doing my "solo bass" version of "Battle Hymn of the Republic"....

If that weren't enough.....there's also a "5 string X-drill" clip from my Technique Builders DVD....We're talking "BONUS FOOTAGE"....

I'll also have a "FLOATING THUMB" clip in addition to a bunch of concert footage coming in the next week or so.....

So..........

Go to http://www.youtube.com/user/toddjohnsonmusic and check out my "channel".....

Please be sure to rate the video, add me as a friend etc. or leave a comment or two.....

Check it out...YouTube.com is FREE.... I have some big plans for my "channel" there, so go have a look and let me know what you think!!

Todd:
Great suggestion getting away from the root. IT's funny, I took a hiatus from playing bass after almost 20 years of upright and electric(burned out from dealing with burn outs.LOL) and got married and strated going to church with new wife. Re-discovered singing and learned about singing parts. Came back to bass and discovered I was FREE of the "start on root" syndrome. I'd suggest for anyone who feels funny just dropping in on a 7th at a solo start try sliding into it from a fret lower - that quick twangk! makes it apparent that, no, it wasn't a mistake, that's where you meant to drop in. All the patterns you suggested were great. I think I will order your walking bass lines DVD since the genre I am playing now doesn't give me that many chances to really "walk". Thanks for all your good work here.
