Left or Right?

Hey, I want to start learning how to play the bass. My problem is that I'm left handed, but when I pick up a right handed bass it feels right, and when I pick up a left handed bass it feels weird. Should I stick with right or go with left as I am left handed.

Sorry to jump in here, as a lefty myself, I would suggest to play what feels natural, which for you luckily is righty. I like to use the 'clapping' test - when you clap your hands, whichever hand is doing the striking should be the plucking hand. It seems natural that that hand is the one to keep the rhythm.

It's odd, my son and I are both lefty and play lefty, and my wife and daughter are right handed, but clap lefty, and when they 'air guitar' they naturally 'play' lefty!

Also as a righty player you will have WORLDS more instruments available down the road. It ain't easy being a southpaw..

Thanks for the advice bro. Oddly enough I did the clap test and my left hand is the one that strikes. However I'm going to give a couple more left and right guitars a try and see which one works more.

I would recommend going right....numerous reasons really...

No matter what...we all have a strong hand and a weak....might as well go right...more basses to choose from....plus your strongest hand will be fingering notes....Hey, it's just my opinion.

Whatever you decide, have fun and work hard!!

I'm here to help!
