For sure you need to know Major, Minor (aeolian) and Dominant (mixolydian).
They're the "Big 3" IMHO......
Then the Blues Scale/Major/Minor Pentatonics
Then Melodic Minor, Harmonic Minor and Diminished.
That ought to do it......
Remember that scales are simply "alphabets".....The main thing is to learn BASS LINES and MELODIES!!
