1937 American Standard
Well I'm taking offers on this bass as it seems its going to need more work than I can afford, it needs a better home!
Here's a bunch of pics:
Serial # 370
The known issues are of course the neck (its not physically loose, I've checked, but does seem to be a shoddy repair).
Other things I can see are:
bridge is warped, badly fitted, needs to go
soundpost is in cockeyed
top is slightly sunken under one bridge foot
crack in top ply near F hole (seems one ply deep)
endpin housing is original but rod is gone, now there's a dowel for temp usage
Overall I think the body is pretty good for the age, top and back are tight to sides all the way around, peghead and tuners are okay, no loose or missing braces etc inside.
Any other questions hit me up with a PM.
I'm really taking any offers, its possible I may just keep this one around if I can't get what I paid.
I've never shipped a bass before and I can't imagine its something I want to do. I'm in Maine but we can figure out a meeting place for pickup, thats best.
As per the classified rules, you must list a price for any item for sale, even if you amend it with "OBO".
Ah, I didn't realize I needed to be specific, but, this may help with offers.
I'll say $1000 OBO, I know its high, but gotta start somewhere!
Okay folks I have some new info on this bass.
I removed the neck from the pocket and discovered a threaded rod which had loosened. I cleaned up the heel, re glued, and re tightened the rrod. It came out well and the neck was installed back in the pocket.
I also steamed the warped bridge straight and added shims to the feet for more height.
The tailpiece wire was changed from a coat hanger to 3/32 wire.
Currently strung with Velvet Garbos.
Tons of potential here for a slamming bass with a little more work.
Please no lowball offers, I have talked to a number of luthiers and feel that $1000 is more than fair.
Bump, any interest? I've had some offers but too low...I'm willing to give someone a great price on this, but not $500....
What is the mensure? Eb or D neck?
Where in Maine are you? I'll come take a look if you're not too far from Portsmouth...
Is this the bass that has been on ebay for a week?
Man, that's one FUGLY bolt repair - right through the button...
