His response to the question was this: "I got this bass because I was looking for a punchier bass with more thump than my carved for jazz playing. After I got it, I decided I wanted to put a new fingerboard on to offset the thin Kay neck. My luthier warned me that doing so might significantly change the sound of the bass."
Basically, he likes the sound of the bass but doesn't dig the Kay neck and is afraid to change too much about the instrument.

| | | | Yes those appear original to the bass. A few 37s and 38s have that style tuners. I have two 38 kays that have them. If they have 20 teeth on the gears, they are original.
