Good grief that's a beauty - that is a real gem (rare too) why are you letting it go if you don't mind me asking? Is it a good player and sounds good (Kay sound) etc?

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm listing this for one of my teachers. His response to the question was this: "I got this bass because I was looking for a punchier bass with more thump than my carved for jazz playing. After I got it, I decided I wanted to put a new fingerboard on to offset the thin Kay neck. My luthier warned me that doing so might significantly change the sound of the bass."

Basically, he likes the sound of the bass but doesn't dig the Kay neck and is afraid to change too much about the instrument.

A Kay expert would know for sure, but I don't think they are.

Yes those appear original to the bass. A few 37s and 38s have that style tuners. I have two 38 kays that have them. If they have 20 teeth on the gears, they are original.
