1980 Engelhardt EC-1, $1000
I got this bass this summer with the worst neck "repair" I've ever seen. After I fixed the neck with hot hide glue and a countersunk lag bolt, I popped the top and did EVERYTHING to it that a player could want, the kind of work that is usually cost-prohibitive to have a pro do on a workingman's bass:
New neck block direct from Engelhardt , shimmed neck joint, new soundpost, shaved the ends of the bass bar for better sound, new Kevlar tailgut from Upton Bass, fit a bridge taken off a '46 Kay, blah blah blah. Has nickel Kluson machines and TONS of cool-looking birdseye figuring in the ribs.
I probably have 50 hours of work in this bass, at least. It plays and sounds as good as one of these are going to get, every bit as good as the '51 Kay I used to have.
It can be strung with steel strings for all-around playing or weedwackers for roots/rockabilly, whichever the buyer prefers.
Located near Albany, NY. I know a driver and have a flight case for it to travel in if someone outside of my area is interested.
Bump for a bass just like mine but better! Same year, too! Solid.
