1994 Rumano Solano

For sale is Rumano Solano's bass #74, made in 1994. It has a spruce top and maple back/ribs. This is one of the nicer Solano's I've tried, with a sweet and projecting upper register and a punchy and assertive low end. I don't have any measurements on hand but this is a smaller bass (3/4), with a very friendly string length and shoulders; when I get the bass back up to Baltimore in a week or two I'll take some measurements (it's currently in Virginia). It has also been drilled for a Laborie endpin, which significantly opens the sound and increases playability. I have plenty of recordings of myself playing the bass that I could send to anyone who might be interested.

The bass has had no new cracks or seam issues in the three years I've owned it, only needing a little glue in the bass bar to fix a minor buzz. I've heard some stories of Solano's with construction issues but this definitely is not one of them.

I'm asking $9,000 (what I payed for it), but am open to hearing reasonable offers. The bass is appraised for $10,000.

Bass is now in Baltimore, I'd be happy to show it up here or in Northern Virginia when I have some time off from school.

This bass is, in fact, not a Shen.

These basses are incredible bargains once they open up and settle in. I should know; mine is from the year after this one.

Here are some measurements; haven't had to measure a bass before, so they might be slightly off, but I did the best I could.

String length - 40.5"
Rib depth at c bout - 7.5"
Rib depth at neck - 6"
Upper bout at widest point - 19.5"
Lower bout at widest point - 25.5"

The back is two pieces.
