Andreas Morelli

This large-bodied bass has had a recent top-off overhaul which included revision of all previous repairs, and an outstanding new fingerboard and bridge. It has a very well-made 2” false nut to bring the string length to a standard 41 1/2”. Since the work, it now has a ‘D’ neck. An even and mature tone across the register and an impressive-looking older bass. $12,500.
Dimensions:
Top length: 44”
Rib depth: 8.5”
Upper-bout width: 20”
C-bout width: 16”
Lower-bout width: 25.5”
This bass is located at the Quantum Bass Center in Houston, TX

Hello I have a Morelli which has been in the family sixty years or more. My very first time holding a bass that was the bass. My father both bought it before I was born. The bass has matured into a wonderful sounding instrument. Had no idea there were so many of them out there. My bass is more of a 3/4 size bas with a red finish and wonderful looking tuning pegs. Has been fun reading everyone posts about this bass.

I played this at TCU bass fest today, INSANELY LOUD. Everyone was blown away when they played it. I really wanted to take it home, but I have a lovely bass waiting for me, and theres no way I could justify another wonderful bass. This is a great instrument that costs much less than it should, you won't regret playing it, and hopefully, buying it.

Morelli, cont'd.

Always pleased to see and hear good things about a Morelli bass.
Have had my Morelli since the mid-1980s, when it was sold to me by my teacher, who was its original owner: Red Callender.
(It's pictured in Red's book, "Unfinished Dream," with Red holding the bass and standing astride comedian Flip Wilson.)
Like yours, Steve, this one has matured into a fine-sounding bass. Lisa Gass recently replaced the bass bar and cleaned up some old repairs inside.
It's a large 3/4 with a 42.5" string length, a D neck and - appropriately enough - a red varnish.
Red was for a time the most-recorded bassist on the West Coast, and he also played w/Billie, Bird, and Art Tatum.
Not a bad legacy for the man - or his Morelli....

strings attached

Hello,

In most photos of basses, the ball ends of the strings aren't visible, and the silk wrappings go over the top of the tailpiece.

Are the strings on your Morelli secured in their respective holes from the underside of the tailpiece?

Just wondering if that was done to effect an improvement in sound or tension - or if it's an inconsequential thing.

-thanks
