Circa 1850 "transitional" bow, $600

This bow came with a trashed Czech bass I brought home recently. I sent photos to several nationally-known bow experts, who identified this bow as having been made in the mid-1800s after the Dragonetti-type bow and before the modern German bow. I have no documentation, and the parties who examined it for me did not see it in person.

Photos here: So what do I have here?

I am told the screw and frog are likely original to the stick, and they function as do modern bows. The weight is a hefty 180 grams according to my cheesy kitchen scale. It feels massive in the hand but draws easily and seems agile for a large and heavy bow. It draws a strong, rich tone that is pleasant but not as complex in the higher frequencies as my Siefert.

My asking price is $600, which is exactly in the middle of the range I was told to expect a buyer to be willing to pay, should I be able to find an interested party. Thank you.

That bow looks giant.

Any chances of a trial?

Sure, as long as you don't mind allowing me to hold full payment and covering shipping. Please PM me to talk further.

It is 27.5" long and the frog is exactly 2" high and .75" wide. It will ship in a nice older velvet-lined hard case which the buyer may keep.

Is this the bow you have written about that works well with gut strings?

Yes it is, and it will soon be in the hands of an early-music player. I'm anxiously awaiting his impression of the bow.
