Czech/Bohemain 3/4 Carved Bass With Pickup and Bow

Czech/Bohemain carved bass. Flatback. 3/4 size. Approx 100 yrs old (according to extremely unofficial quick look at Hammond-Ashley, and roughly confirmed by Sarah Balmforth).

This bass has been for sale before on TalkBass. The dead thread is here with a lot of info:

For Sale: Czech/Bohemian Bass

I had, for a spell, decided to keep the bass and brought it to Sarah Balmforth who fixed it up. Repairs she did include the following:

*Made the endpin rod removable
*new tailpiece wire
*new ebony nut
*added one new ebony bass bumper (for a total of 4!)
*cleaned and fixed up the tuners
*glued open seams
* setup and adjusted everything
She also was able to veryify that the crackish things on the top are totallly stable and nothing to worry about.
Sarah worked wonders on this bass. I didn't think it could play or sound any better that it already did, but now, wow.

It is currently setup with a full set of Dlugolecki guts. Including NiAG E and A. I am willing to negotiate a string credit if you don't want the guts.

I am also including either a Gage realist (circa late 90's) OR an Underwood (purchased new mid 90s, don't know when it was manufactured) as a pickup option.

Finally, I'm also including a Wilfer German bow. I bought it at Hammond-Ashley and had it rehaired with black hair, also at Hammond-Ashley.

Come to Seattle and play it. I can drive it to selected PacNW destinations. If shipped, seller pays shipping, and I'll bring it to Hammond-Ashley for boxing and shipping.

$7500.

PM or email me at mattiejw (at) earthlink (dot) net

Thanks.

Just out of curiosity, how come you decided to sell again?

In truth, because I need a money, and because I have a quantity of basses that is right on the edge of causing relationship issues.

I love this bass and play it every day, so I'm really not the most motivated seller, but if I can sell it and downgrade (or even just keep myself from getting another bass at all), I think I can live with that. In the meantime, I get to play this beauty right now...

Could you tell us the string length and whether it has a D or Eb neck
(or other?)? Thanks.

42", maybe just shy of that, depending on which string I measure, and where I place the tape measure.

Eb neck.

Bump. It now has steel strings on it from a previous tryout. Wow! Steel. I think those things are going to catch on.

Any particular reason for the $2000 price jump? just get some of the repair bill back? Beautiful bass BTW, if i was around Seatle I would love to see it in person.

I guess "getting the repair bill back" is one way of saying it. The other way of saying it is that I was offering the bass at a really good price because it needed some work. The bass is now ready-to-go-as-is, and I'm selling it at a price that accurately reflects its currrent value. Not to mention a good entry-level bow and a pickup.

And the price is negotiable.

Thanks for stopping by.
