I have a Fully Carved German 5/8 bass from the early 1900's for sale. It has ebony fittings, wooden tuning pegs and adjustable bridge. It is a 40" scale and Eb neck.
The dimensions are:
Height 68 1/2"
Body 40"
Depth 7 1/2"
Upper bout 19 1/4"
Lower bout 24 1/2"
I am asking $2700 O.B.O.
Located in the DFW area of Texas.
Thanks for looking, Larry

Feedback please

Hi guys, please give me your thoughts on this bass. Am I way out of line on price, or is it not desirable as a 5/8 bass. I am negotiable on price, I recently purchased an 1964 E.H. Roth and this one isnot being played. I am new to forums and not sure how best to describe it.
Thanks, Larry

+1. If possible take some photos with the bass (and the room it's in) being illuminated by sunlight to better show the bass's details.

It depends on how the bass sounds. I'd consider a similar bass at this price if it sounded good.

I could live with the 40" scale, but the Eb neck is another strike against it (for me, anyway).

And of course, the distance makes it impossible unless I happen to be traveling in the area.

Assuming no problems with the bass, and it sounds good, it'll sale if you're prepared to wait a while. It took me over a year to sale one of my Kays, but it was worth the wait and I got the same amount that I paid for it.

(It looks like you've got a very cool bass there.)

Stuff really isn't flying off the shelf at the moment...if you have a killer price the bass moves but many seem to sit on this site and others for a while...That Bass seems real nice! good luck

You ought to post all the important measurements. When someone calls a bass a "5/8", many of us assume it is actually a 1/2 size.

Yes, post measurements! All of them!

I also suggest you try to sale it on Craigslist as well, though it can be a pain in the ass to deal with spam, scammers and low-ball offers (when I post, I clearly state that offers will not be considered until *after* the bass has been inspected, and I don't bother to reply to emails asking "what's the lowest you'd take?"). I've sold two basses on CL, and both took over a year, but I did get the fair price that I wanted on both sales.

You might want to consider taking it to a good shop to sell on consignment. That's the ultimate hassle-free way to unload a bass. Also, a good luthier can better evaluate the bass' worth and the reality of the market. You'll have to pay a commission, but that will be counter-balanced by the fact that a bass vetted by a reputable shop will fetch a higher price than one sold by an individual.

Thank you all very much for the suggestions. I will get on these immediately.
And thanks for the welcome to this great forum. Hopefully I will be able to return the favor.
