FS: American Standard plywood bass 1959

For Sale - American Standard Bass made by the H.N. White Co out of Cleveland, Ohio. Serial number 2468, which should place it at about 1959 for the year of manufacture.

I’ve had this bass for nearly 25 years personally, as it was the one I got when in high school.
It had some issues with the back for as long as I've had it, so I recently had it in for some much needed TLC by the fine folks at Guarneri House (Guarneri House) which is a prominent stringed instrument design shop here in Grand Rapids. Originally, they were simply going to glue some areas of the back that weren't tight, and ended up removing the entire back to do a decent job. In the process, it was discovered that the bass bar had come loose over the years, so that has also been reglued. (I had noticed a bit of a buzz on the low notes, particularly with pizz.)

There is also a crack which I believe was repaired years ago on the neck/head. It looked like this when I got the bass, and it's remained stable. (It might be a good idea to have it checked, nonetheless.)

It has a really bold sound, I'm afraid I'm really not good enough to do it justice. I enjoyed playing both orchestral and jazz with this bass, though I've heard that these babies are pretty popular with jazz bassists.

It doesn't get enough use to warrant my keeping it, so it needs to find a good home.
I'm asking $1000.

I also have a nice German made professional German bow that I'll be posting soon as well.

I also have a soft case for this which is included which is in fair/poor condition. But, it was better than nothing.

The bass can be seen in person and picked up at my house:

1747 Timberlane Lane NE
Grand Rapids, MI 49505

I'd also be willing to ship this, though it may require the rental of a hard bass shipper case.

I appreciate your viewing of my post. If you'd like to e-mail me directly, feel free to do so at 1masteryoda (AT) gmail (DOT) com

I'm a newbie to the forum, so if I've missed an important FAQ on posting, feel free to kindly make needed suggestions.

I've thought about renting a trunk, sending it to you, and having it shipped to Montreal, but I think that plan is a bit unfeasible right now. It'd be great to have a bass to keep at school and one to keep at home.

That's a great price. This shouldn't last too long.

Folks, this is half price or better. If this bass was within 1000 miles of where I lived, I'd be there with the station wagon ASAP.

No kidding! A good setup (including a carbon fibre bar to take the bow out of the neck) and that would be a terrific bass...

American Standard plywood bass - Sale Pending!

I am currently making arrangements for the sale of this bass pending pickup in early to mid-January. I do not anticipate the bass will be available after that time, but will post here one way or the other to avoid any confusion. Thanks for the interest. I'm really happy this will find its way to a bassist who'll love it and put it to good use.

SOLD - American Standard Bass 1959

Thank you for all the interest. My bass now has found a new home and I got to hear some great Bluegrass music to boot!

If any of ya'll (just had to say that!) get a chance to go to a show put on by Mountain Heart, I strongly recommend them.

I do however, still have a nice W. German made German bow available.

Thanks again!
