I recently obtained this 35" scale Big Kydd EUB on a trade here at TB. I initially thought I wanted this size so it would be easier to switch between EUB and bass guitar. I'm finding however, that I'd prefer a full scale (41"-42") EUB.
The Kydd is a really nice instrument. It sounds good with no preamp, and it sounds fantastic through my Fishman Pro II bass preamp. The bass is in excellent condition. The hardware on this bass is first rate. The stand is sturdy, quite adjustable, and very solid. These basses come standard with D'Addario Chromes which sound OK. I immediately installed a set of TI jazz flats, and it made a BIG difference. The bass has a much more upright-like sound now, and there is plenty of "mwah" if you choose to play it that way. The bass body is flamed maple, and the board is granadillo. The bass comes with a soft bag and a neck cover to protect it from the stand when it's in the case. The board is rounded like an upright, and the bass can be bowed quite well.
As I said, I'm looking for a full scale EUB. I would LOVE a NS NSX 4 or 5 string. I would consider an NS WAV with a bit of cash from you. Other EUB's considered. I would also be willing to listen to offers for a decent beginner double bass. (Englehardt, etc.) Sorry, but not interested in Palatino, Stagg, or Ergo EUBs. Thanks
Thanks to the previous owner, basso profoundo, for these pics.
