I am selling my beloved late 1800's Lowendall made in Dresden Germany. I have had this bass for the past 10 years and it has been a spectacular bass! It is stamped "Lowendall's Grand Concert Basso" and "Dresden." Asking $18,000. I am located in Austin, TX. Willing to travel for serious inquiries. I am also in the San Francisco area about once a year (will be there this month, so contact me soon if you are interested).

Specs on the bass:
Tight grain solid spruce top, highly flamed maple ribs, back, and neck. Measurements: 19.5" upper bout, 25.5" lower bout, rib depth 8.75" at bottom-7.5" at top, 41" string length, Eb neck. I currently have Eva Pirazzi weichs on, but will purchase a new set of strings for whoever buys her! She has an amazing sound. Very warm and dark, and one of the most resonant basses I have ever played. She is also very easy to play. I recently had some restoration work done by Aaron Reiley of Grand Rapids, MI (great luthier), so she is in incredible shape.
I use her for classical, solo, and jazz. The jazz professor at UT (John Fremgen) has told me it is rare to find a bass that's as equally good for classical and for jazz as mine. Previously owned by Scott Pingel, the current principal of the San Francisco Symphony.
You can hear me playing her on YouTube, search "Elizabeth Lehr" or "notatooma" (The Honeymooners is my jazz duo, which I'm amplified for; on Islands Concerto she has solo strings on; Homage to Tom Waits has some bowing and pizzicato with orchestral strings, I'm playing acoustically).
Please let me know if you are interested or have questions. Thanks for looking!

| | | | This is a nice instrument. I had the opportunity to play on it a few months ago. It's certainly worth what the seller is asking. I also got the impression the seller is an honest and straightforward individual. |

I'm planning on going as well, so by the off chance you don't sell it by then id love to look at it, but until then good luck selling it- it looks like a great instrument. |

If you live anywhere between Austin and Philly, and are potentially interested in buying the bass, let me know! I would be happy to set up a time to meet with anyone wanting to try out the bass. :-)
@skyre, maybe we could meet somewhere closer to where you live while I'm on this trip. (Then you wouldn't have to wait until June to maybe get to try her out) |

(Then you wouldn't have to wait until June to maybe get to try her out) | I live in Michigan and go to school in Ohio, so I think I'd be quite a bit out of your way- I also don't have a car so that'd make it hard to meet up anywhere. I'd be glad to look at it in June but I don't think it'd work until then. Hope you find a buyer even if it doesn't work out with me! |
