1979 Engelhardt EM-1. Bass is 3/4 size with laminated/plywood construction, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, and original soft case. Had it since 1992.
In 2001 I spent almost $800 on an upgraded setup from Hammond Ashley. This included fitting and installing an adjustable maple bridge, planing and shaping the fingerboard, stripping neck finish and coating with oil, adding a rubber endpin tip, and installing D'Addario strings. Gigged lightly since then.
Bass has been in Kansas for 11+ years and is stable. Neck has never broken. See pictures for cosmetic damage: one puncture in the lower bout, one indentation on the upper left bout, a few finish scratches, and some denting on the edges. I'll throw in the Fishman BP-100 pickup with the deal.
Bass speaks well and is plenty loud. It's got that classic roots music throb, and produces some good growl for pizzacato. OK for arco playing. Here's a track I recorded using the bass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xk-WCjKQ_yo
Would prefer local/regional sale in/around Wichita, KS, and on the I-35 corridor. Might be willing to ship if buyer pays all shipping and packing costs and provides container. Also willing to consider trades up to hybrid/carved bass+ cash on my end. Thanks!
Here is the puncture to the lower ribs. Hasn't moved since I caused it ten years ago.
