If Gerold made them for you then I believe the after lengths were custom made per your basses dimensions. The before lengths too, or whatever they're called up above the nut.

I asked Gerold about this before I lent some of his Red Label strings to another player. He said that basically as long as the metal part of the string doesn't wind round the tuners in the pegbox they should at least be safe from breakages, although obviously they are custom made for optimum performance on the original owner's instrument.

the metal hasn't been wound around the pegs, so they are a ok

Just out of interest what were your impressions of these strings for various modes of playing from one month on your bass?
I'sure there are a few lurkers keen to get some feedback....l
