STRINGS: Perm, Flex, Orig. Flex, Orig. Flat, Belcanto, Passione, Superflex, Spiro

I've been trying a lot of different strings over the past couple of years and realized it's time to clean out the drawer. The strings are all in good shape- I never use strings more than 6 months and take care to clean them and prevent rosin/oil buildup. There is some fraying of the silk on some of the pegbox ends because of the way I wrap my strings around the peg but they're all in good shape with lots of life left.

Shipping included to CONUS - PayPal preferred

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for the interest guys.

At this point I'm trying to keep full sets as full sets so as for the Passione Ext. E maybe check back with me in a couple weeks. Sorry but if someone is looking for a set and that's the dealbreaker for them then it doesn't make sense.

Hey Chris, just curious, after going through so many string sets, what did you settle on for your bass?

Well I've realized that there may not be one best string for either one of my basses. There were things I liked each string for specifically but it's become more about finding what sounds and response I need for a variety of music in one string.

On my "orchestra" bass or mainly arco bass, I'm using Bel Cantos again as I find they have a nice orchestra sound and response yet still sound great for solo, chamber music, and audition situations. If I was strictly doing section work and not playing recitals, auditions, etc. I might be using the Passione Starks still or Original Flatchroms. If it was more chamber music, solo, or strictly principal orchestra work then I might go with Permanents.

On my jazz bass I'm using Superflexibles at the moment though I think I'll order a set of Spiro Weichs soon. The Superflexibles are a nice mellow sound on my bass with decent sustain and clarity though sometimes I miss the extra definition, ring, and growl that the spiros have.

It's funny, I've come back to settle on basically what I was using in the first place... but at least I know what other strings sound like on my bass and if I have a specific need for that sound sometime in the future I'll know where to look.
