Hey, everyone! My name is Bryce, I'm 16, I live just outside of Atlanta, Georgia, and as of right now, I don't play bass...

Back in sixth grade, my mom wanted to get me into music. She bought a guitar on impulse, but I decided to play trumpet instead. I was learning along with the school band, but then the class started going at a pace that was just too fast for me. So I quit. A few months ago, I found that guitar and realized that I'd be playing it right now if I had just gone along with it, because I would have gotten better lessons that were as fast or as slow as I needed. And yet, I still didn't want to play it. It's just too popular of an instrument that it wouldn't be fun to learn. Nobody would be impressed, because so many people can do it already. Then I could rule out drums and vocals because I have an awful voice and I don't have enough stamina to play drums. That leaves me with plenty of options, but I made the decision to give bass a shot. I guess LynZ from Mindless Self Indulgence is my number one inspiration for this, because that's an incredible band and she's just as awesome. Anyway, I found this place and decided to join so that I could get some help choosing the right bass to start with and maybe some recommendations on books and/or DVDs to teach myself. I have plenty of time to learn, and even if actual lessons with a human instructor would be more effective, I just don't have time to stick to a specific schedule and I'd feel much more fulfilled to do it all on my own.
So yeah, hopefully you all can help me out, and maybe someday I'll be the one giving pointers to the new members. :]
