Sign in to disble this ad
Hi to all my fellow bass players. My first time on site. Can anyone help. I have an ampeg b15n fliptop head from the 1970s. Want to build a matching cab. Can anyone give me the dimensions of the cab that matches this head please? Want to put a 15" speaker in so also need to know if cab made of plywood, and thickness half inch?? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I have a complete unit B15N fliptop amp. It is from the early 70's and is still very useable...but I prefer to use either my Bassman 100 or my Peavy 112, as they are easier to carry around.

If you can let me know what dimensions you require, I will pull my B15 out from under the pile of stuff and do some measuring.

In the meantime, you may want to peruse this site dedicated to fliptops:

Doug

Dimensions of B15N cabinet

OK...here is what my tape measure tells me regarding the Ampeg cabinet:

Height: 62 inches
Depth: 14 inches
Width: 21 1/16 inches

Gap where the amp top sits:

Depth: 11 3/4 inches
Width: 21 inches

In case you want to know, the measurement from the back of the amp cabinet to the gap is 3/4 inch.

The measurement from the front of the cabinet to the gap is 1 3/4 inch.

The inner lip of the gap is a 3/4 inch all around.

My cabinet is most definitely made of plywood.

The thickness of the front edge (measured from the grille cloth to the front edge of the cabinet): 3/8 inch

I hope that this will help you out. Now, I have to re-bury the Ampeg in my pile of "not being used anymore" equipment.

Regards,

Doug

Umm, you might want to re-check the "62 inches" figure; that's a little more than 5 feet tall - a bit much for a B15....

B15N height

So sorry for the error...the B15 cabinet is 24 inches high. I inadvertently read the metric portion of the tape measure...

Thank you sir; I was looking at the B15 out in the studio when I read your post, but didn't have a tape measure handy....

No problem...and thank you, Dave

Dave,

Thanks again for pointing out the imperial/metric mixup. Now I know how that spacecraft to Mars missed its objective by "a few" miles. Even though we Canadians are legislated into using the metric system, I still think in terms of inches, feet and miles.

I checked out your website and will be having a better look tomorrow morning while my wife is away at work.

Thanks again

Doug

Cool - be aware that the site is woefully out of date; it doesn't even mention the grand piano, for instance....

... and what is the plywood thickness?

Hi,
you provided quite helpful information regarding the cab dimensions. Great job !!

What is the plywood thickness?
I also have seen some pictures from inside the cab of B-15S, there are two bars between the front and back wall mounted.
Also another bar is horizontally across the inner back side.
Look.

I also intend to build my own one but still missing some dimensions.

Thanks
Dobroslav

Inner dimensions of B-15N enclosure?

One more question, what are the inner dimensions of B-15N cabinet? This is the most important information I think.
